Brooklyn Bead Whisperer, Mandy Turton brings you a selection of Tabi. Ok, that's enough about me, more about Tabi:
Tabi are hand beaded necklaces, fetish & wearable art made from beads of the world. Each Tabi has a story to tell.
Semi-precious stones, coral, amber and holy seed beads were (and still are) used as protection, luck & opportunity enhancing talismans & to identify class, religion & gender.
Beads were traded 2000 years before JC & corrupt bead trading was used to disempower many tribal groups by "civilised" invaders from 500AD. Anglo-celts commonly used semi-precious stones & beaded jewellery as talismans until discouraged by The Church as a pagan custom & replaced by the Rosary. The oldest known bead is dated 38,000BC found in a French cave. The study of beads is the study of humanity and meaning.
Wear your Tabi with awe & respect, as it has links to the past, and just maybe an innate spirit. So the question has to be asked -
Do you choose the Tabi or does the Tabi choose you?
